Currently, the average radiology tech salary in Kansas is $46,190, with most radiology techs making somewhere around $22.21 an hour. The perks of a career in this field are a substantial income and career outlook that is very stable. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for radiology techs are most likely to increase 17% by 2018. While there are currently about 2,210 radiology technicians employed in Kansas, demand in this field could result in more than 375 new radiology technician positions.

Although these statistics are certainly positive, it is also important to understand why the demand for radiology technicians is growing. In Kansas, about 17.8% of adults are regular cigarette smokers, and recent studies have indicated that between 80% and 90% of all cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung-related complications are caused by regular tobacco smoking. Although the number of Kansans that smoke is still somewhat lower than the national average of 18.3%, it is important to recognize that a substantial number of Kansans are at risk for COPD. However, with the help of radiology technicians, early detection is helping to improve the prognosis for patients with COPD, and this in turn is creating a greater demand in this profession.
