Kentucky CNA Training Programs

Kentucky is home to at least twenty-two CNA training programs. Good places to search for approved training programs are in local technical or community colleges, state universities, area hospices, hospitals and residential care facilities. Other places that offer nurse aide programs are the American Red Cross, Nurse Aide Training Center and Kentucky Health Training, LLC, Armed Forces, Georgetown Nurse Aide Training Center, and Bluegrass Nurse Aide Training Center.

By browsing through course descriptions and guidelines in Kentucky CNA programs, students will find classes that involve basic patient care procedures such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and skin care techniques. In addition students will be expected to learn the importance of respecting a patient’s rights, privacy, environment, and family counseling needs. Also, effective communication skills will be taught to promote high quality behavioral observation and management. Furthermore, CNAs in Kentucky will be tested on such nurse assisted tasks like monitoring vital signs, aiding in eating and hydration activities, CPR and first aide procedures, and basic phlebotomy. Since CNAs must interact with a wide-range of patients, education teaches students how to handle patients with mental health issues, cognitive impairments, and those preparing for imminent death as well. Finally, CNA curriculum must include material on the importance of infection control and safety.

Continuing education also plays an important role in the career of highly successful CNAs in Kentucky. In fact, nursing facilities in Kentucky are actually mandated to provide at a minimum, twelve hours of on-site continuing education every year for nurse assistants. Not only does it keep professionals up-to-date on current trends and changes in the industry, but continuing education can function as an opportunity for career advancements in becoming a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN).

Through either online or campus based programs, aspiring C.N.A.s in Louisville, Lexington and Owensboro, Kentucky may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Western State Hospital, Norton Hospital and Western State Hospital.
