Athletic trainer certification in Kentucky is a critical part of preparing to take on the state's job market for conditioning coaches and team sports support staff. A Bachelor's degree in a human health related field is necessary to qualify for proper certification and licensure. The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) oversees all athletic trainer degree programs in the state, and ensures that they sufficiently prepare students for the Board of Certification (BOC) exams.
The Kentucky Athletic Trainers Society (KATS) works to enforce employment standards throughout the state, and advocates further training and proper certification for high school, university and professional team sports staff. The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure issues the actual certification, and endows the state's athletic trainers with the responsibility of sports injury prevention, proper conditioning, and safe, effective rehabilitation.
Athletic trainers in Kentucky are considered necessary to the safety, health and wellbeing of each member of a sports team. The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure maintains that they're responsible for providing first response medical attention under the direct supervision of a licensed physician or sports medic.
Just 19% of Kentucky's population has Bachelors' Degrees. Students who complete an athletic trainer degree program immediately place themselves within the top 20th percentile of the state's eligible workforce.
