Kentucky Medical Transcription Salaries

The average Kentucky medical transcriptionist salary ranges from $25,000 to $30,000 per year; however, the annual income of a medical transcriptionist in Kentucky can vary depending on the level of experience and the current credential value.

Get Certified with the AHDI

After schooling is complete, the next best thing that Kentucky students can do is to affiliate them selves even further with the Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity. A student can do this by getting the proper education and getting prepared to sit one of two examinations given by the AHDI.

The two certifications that the AHDI offers are the RMT, or registered medical transcriptionist, certification and the CMT, certified medical transcriptionist certification. In order to be qualified to test for the RMT designation, a Kentucky student must have graduated from a training program in medical transcription; however, it is not required that the program be affiliated with the AHDI. The fee to take the RMT test is $200.

In order to take the CMT examination, a medical transcriptionist must already hold the RMT status and must have worked at least two years in an acute care working environment. These requirements help to ensure that the RMT is capable and prepared to take this extensive examination. The fee to take the CMT test is $275.

Because the field of medical transcription is constantly changing, there are continuing education requirements for all registered and certified medical transcriptionist. The RMT must enroll in and complete one online program every three years so that their credential can be kept current. A CMT must complete at least 30 hours of supplemental education every three years in to keep their designation current.
