Kentucky Healthcare Informatics School - KY

Educational Accreditation

Accreditation is crucial to your education and your career. Without proper education, you cannot take the ANCC and HIMSS certification tests. In addition, many employers would much rather prefer to see that the school you attended had an accredited and respectable program.

Accreditation can come from either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Both of these groups are well known in the industry, so you just need to remember to check for them when you are researching schools.

Educational Degrees

Registered nurses are required to have the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing or science, which takes about 2 to 4 years to complete. Understandably you will be working on the informatics side of nursing, but without nursing education you will not be able to understand the role of informatics. There are a variety of Kentucky nursing informatics programs.

A Kentucky healthcare informatics master’s degree is beginning to become highly recommended. Currently, a master’s degree is not required, but with continuous changes in technology and the medical field as a whole, it is not unreasonable to predict that such a degree may become commonplace in the future.

Regardless of which type of degree you complete, the next step will be a certificate course in nursing informatics, which is usually only a 1-year program. However, this is very important to understanding the role of informatics in the nursing.

Internships

Not all certificate programs require an internship, but most of them do, mainly because you can get a much better idea of your expected role in the healthcare field if you can view it from a hands-on angle, and the internship is designed to do exactly that. Plus, there is the added benefit of getting exposure to hospitals and clinics that may be interested in hiring you.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Nurses in Health Informatics in Louisville, Lexington and Owensboro, Kentucky may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Norton Hospital, Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, and Owensboro Medical Health.
