Become a Personal Trainer in Kentucky - KY

Becoming a personal trainer can be a career path for someone that enjoys working with people and wants to help someone get stronger physically.  You may want to gain certification through a nationally recognized program on their own if it is not available or required at the state level in order to show your clients that you are serious about what you do and want to learn as much as you can about you field.  This may also help in gaining more clients.  According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is an expected increase up through 2016 in the employment of fitness workers, such as personal trainers, up to 27%.  Since the population is aging and fitness has become increasingly important to the quality of life, personal trainers have a strong place in the world of fitness.

The first and foremost thing to consider pursuant to a career in personal training is your own training in the various methods and techniques of physical fitness.  In Kentucky, personal trainer certification through a national organization is the second step to getting started on your career.  Complete an online program or campus-based program for personal training certification in Kentucky. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics states that certification is often necessary to obtain employment.

Athletic trainers are required to become certified in Kentucky but personal trainers are not.  Athletic trainers are different from personal trainers.  They work primarily with athletes while a personal trainer works with anyone who wants to improve their health and strength.  Their organizations and training are different than that of a personal trainer.

There currently are no requirements in the state of Kentucky for a personal trainer to register in the state or be state certified, so education is everything.  If this every changed, it would most likely be found where athletic trainer information is found, through the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.  See www.kbml.ky.gov/ah/.  The office’s contact information is as follows:
