A typical phlebotomy certification will take one year to complete, and an Associate's Degree in the State of Kentucky will take two years to complete. Phlebotomy programs typically cover the vascular system, CPR, first aid, and other topics pertaining to human anatomy. Phlebotomy programs in Kentucky may also help students gain on-the-job training.

If a Phlebotomist goes through a certification program, he will be required to complete nine continuing education requirements through an organization recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs every two years. Continuing education requirements typically include courses or training programs focused on developing a Phlebotomist's understanding of safety, anatomic pathology, and specialty management.
