Educational Requirements for Public Health Workers in Kentucky
A career as a public health professional in Kentucky begins with a high school diploma. Once an individual has completed this requirement, there are many available options for post-secondary education, including online learning, vocational, university, and technical institutions. The search for the right program can be simplified by referring to the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) website @ www.ceph.org. This website presents a detailed listing of public health programs available by state, in addition to the accreditation dates for each institution. The US Department of Education recognizes the CEPH to accredit public health schools and programs in an effort to prepare professionals for entry into the field of public health. The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the primary degree available in public health, but there are many other master and doctoral degree options also available.
Some online and campus based Kentucky public health schools offer a public health certificate for individuals who are not ready to pursue a degree program. The public health certificate addresses issues specific to the state of Kentucky in the area of public health. The curriculum for public health students will depend on which of the five basic public health programs is chosen. The degree specific curriculum will change based on the major, however, most programs require completion of some core public health classes.
