There are a number of accredited Louisiana physical therapy schools as well as online universities with these programs. Then, there are even more clinics, hospitals and other places where you can find good paying work helping people restore their mobility, reduce pain and return to the normal lives after an injury or illness.
To keep on top of changes in physical therapy technology and technique, you are legally required to take at least 12 hours of continuing education classes a year. These may be formal classes with an instructor, computer or DVD-based courses, workshops or seminars. Whatever you decide, the course must be approved by the LSBPTE.
Continuing education courses are being developed all the time, so it is possible to take a CE course before or while the provider is seeking approval. Still, it’s a bit of a risk, as there is a possibility that the state may not approve it and the credits won’t count. Louisiana’s licensing board website (http://www.laptboard.org/coned/approvedcourses) lists prior approved courses for your convenience.
No more than four hours of CE credits can be in administrative management. The state of Louisiana wants to ensure that most of your continuing education focuses on patient care rather than business topics.
One hour of actual study is not equivalent to a credit hour. For example, if you are attending a post-graduate school, each semester hour is worth 10 hours of continuing education credit.
