Center for Environmental Health Services

The Center for Environmental Health Services (CEHS) in Louisiana was designed to protect the health of the general public by ensuring that the Louisiana State Sanitary Code is properly enforced. CEHS engineers and sanitarians are used to reduce the possibility of the transmission of diseases. The state’s water systems are watched closely by the CEHS to ensure safe drinking water for all residents.

Manufacturers of food and drugs, restaurants, the dairy industry’s milk, and areas in which molluscan shellfish are grown are also closely watched by the CEHS to make sure that all of these products are safe for Louisianans. Also, the CEHS Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology (SEET) closely watches any possible exposure from humans to chemical agents that may be released into the environment, and determines the health risks of these chemical agents.
