Radiology Tech School in Louisiana - LA

louisiana radiology tech schools

Typically, after graduating high school, a radiological technologist attends a two-year junior/community college or a four-year university to earn an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree in a radiological technology program respectively. Federal law dictates some of the standards these schools must teach to ensure patients are protected from excessive radiation, and the Joint Review Committee on educational programs in Radiologic Technology accredits programs. However, it is still up to Louisiana to ultimately decide who may use radiological equipment on patients, in what settings and for what purposes. There are a variety of Louisiana Radiology Technician Schools along with online degree options.

Following your bachelor’s degree, you might consider pursuing a master’s degree in radiological technology, which would help you choose a career teaching the skill or acting as an administrator.

A radiologic technologist’s education will include anatomy and physiology, as well as radiation physics, nuclear physics, math and trigonometry. Part of what radiologic therapists do is destroying tumors with radiation. Being able to triangulate a tumor’s location with electromagnetic waves relies on trigonometry.

Other classes will include biology, biostatistics, genetics, medical ethics, chemistry, emergency medical procedures, medical imaging science and diagnosis.

While you need not attend a Louisiana radiology program to be accepted for licensure, the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (LSRTBE) has pre-approved 14 programs offered in the Pelican State.

Through campus or online programs, aspiring Radiology Technicians in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport, Louisiana can prepare themselves for careers at some of the best hospitals and healthcare facilities in the country including the Lafayette General Hospital, Ochsner Medical Center and Charity Hospital.
