According to Indeed.com, the average gerontologist salary in Maine is comparable to averages found in other states.  As the elderly population grows, the demand for geriatrics professionals will also increase, creating a higher than is common level of job security for geriatric professionals over the next 10–30 years. Since Maine boasts the fourteenth highest population of elders in the country, the demand for geriatric professionals will be especially high in this state.

This means that salaries may also increase, especially for those in more clinical careers. Geriatric nurse practitioners, for instance, may see their salaries rise from $77,000 per year to a much higher number. This may be good news for GNPs in Bangor and Portland, whose salaries may elevate from their current range of $66,000–$79,000.

Geriatric psychiatrists and audiologists will likely also see a pay increase. Currently, geriatric psychiatrists in Maine make an average of $110,000 per year, with the highest gerontologist salary in existing in Bangor. Audiologists, whose average salaries rest at about $68,000 per year, also see high salaries in Bangor.

No matter your chosen career, you can reap personal, professional, and financial rewards in this field, especially if you are in a field of gerontology that is in high demand.
