Steps to Become a Registered Nurse in Maine

In the state of Maine, a license is required to practice as a registered nurse. An applicant must meet the following qualifications:

Must graduate from Maine RN programs or comparable out of state programs that lead to an approved nursing degree or certificate
If they have been licensed in another state and took an examination and the exam is acceptable to the Maine Board of Nursing, they can continue to apply
Meet qualifications comparable to those in the state of Maine if they were previously licensed in another state
The application

Must be complete and notarized
Must have a 2x2 recent photo signed and dated
Must include a check for $75.00 made out to the Treasurer of State of Maine
A verification form from the original state of licensure if the applicant was originally licensed somewhere else must be included
A transcript if necessary, see website

Must have taken the NCLEX exam. The fee to take the exam is $200.00
