Steps to Become a Registered Nurse in Maine
In the state of Maine, a license is required to practice as a registered nurse. An applicant must meet the following qualifications:
- Must graduate from Maine RN programs or comparable out of state programs that lead to an approved nursing degree or certificate
- If they have been licensed in another state and took an examination and the exam is acceptable to the Maine Board of Nursing, they can continue to apply
- Meet qualifications comparable to those in the state of Maine if they were previously licensed in another state
- The application
- Must be complete and notarized
- Must have a 2x2 recent photo signed and dated
- Must include a check for $75.00 made out to the Treasurer of State of Maine
- A verification form from the original state of licensure if the applicant was originally licensed somewhere else must be included
- A transcript if necessary, see website
- Must have taken the NCLEX exam. The fee to take the exam is $200.00
