Veterinary Technician Schools in Maine

If you are a health care professional or student with a strong interest in working with animals and technology, then a career as a veterinary technician should be considered. Like most states, Maine mandates that all veterinary technicians first obtain a license from the Department of Professional Licensing prior to employment. Licenses are only granted to those that possess a high school diploma (or GED), have completed at least an associate degree program from an accredited school, and have passed a veterinarian technician national examination. Once these three eligibility requirements are met, professionals will need to submit an application along with several licensing fees. The initial licensing fee is $30, the application fee is $20, and the criminal background fee is $21. Once a license is issued in Maine, it is valid until September 1st of each year at which time a renewal fee of $30 is required.

In order to get gain the necessary education and training for this profession, students will need to enroll in an online or campus-based veterinary technician school in Maine that is accredited by the Committee of Veterinary Technician Education and Activities, or an equally distinguished accrediting agency. Ideally, students should enroll at a school that will prepare them for veterinary technician certification.
