How to Become a Pharmacy Technician in Maryland


The National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam is given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and is a voluntary examination that provides a complete overview of the individual’s competency for working as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Maryland.  For a candidate to be eligible to take the examination, they must have earned a high school diploma or completed the GED, and must have graduated from a Maryland pharmacy technician certification program.  The examination is available to take many times throughout the year with locations throughout the nation. 

In the state of Maryland, one must meet at least one of the requirements that is listed on the Maryland Board of Pharmacy website.  If you are to enroll in a Pharmacy Technician school with at an approved Maryland Pharmacy Technician certification program, then one is not required to take an exam as part of the State’s registration requirements and completing the National Certification exam becomes optional for that person.  In order to deem oneself eligible to take the examination in Maryland one must be at least 18 years or older, have obtained a high school diploma or finished their GED, and not have been convicted or pled guilty to a felony that was drug-related. 

A practice examination to become a certified Pharmacy Technician is available to take for $25 and is available over the Internet at any time.  This practice test contains 50 questions that pertain to the pharmacy technician field of study and gives you 90 minutes for completion.
