Massachusetts Medical Technologist Programs and Continuing Education
In Massachusetts, medical technologist certification is typically a stipulation for employment. While there is currently not a state licensing mandate in effect, the majority of hospitals and healthcare facilities in Massachusetts routinely seek out medical technologists that have received certification.
The first thing that you must do to be eligible for certification is to graduate with at least a bachelor-level education from a medical technologist school in Massachusetts. The bachelor degree is a 4-year study program in laboratory sciences and will provide you with a strong education foundation that will ultimately help you to find entry-level employment as a medical technologist in Massachusetts.
Keep in mind that each school in Massachusetts is responsible for developing its own courses and programs, so your actual course of study may vary between schools. However, there are some courses that are part of the foundation of clinical laboratory science, and they include:
- Biological Sciences
- Clinical Chemistry and Microbiology
- Clinical Laboratory Equipment
- Immunology
- Serology
- Molecular Diagnostics
After you have successfully completed your bachelor degree, you will then be eligible for certification by examination through the America Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Passage of their test will reward you with certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Medical Technologists in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Cambridge and Lowell, Massachusetts may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Massachusetts General Hospital, Winchester Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Marlborough Hospital.Medical Technologist Schools in Massachusetts
