Georgia massage therapy certification for licensure is required to practice within the state. Georgia has no requirement to take and pass a Georgia Law examination at this time for licensure of a massage therapist. All information regarding state licensure is found at the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy website.
- There are two ways to apply for Georgia massage therapy certification for licensure. Each way requires different documentation.
- The first way is by application. Individuals that fit under this plan are newly graduated massage therapy students, someone who does not have a current license living in another state and plans to practice in the state of Georgia, or someone working in another state that does not require licensure and is wanting to practice in the state of Georgia, as well. The requirements are as follows: an official transcript in the original sealed envelope, proper documentation from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or from the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSTMB) regarding successful completion of the appropriate examination.
- The second way is by endorsement. Individuals that fit under this plan are individuals who have a current and active license in another state. The requirements are as follows: current license documentation and verification of the current state's license requirements.
- Once the application to practice massage therapy and bodywork has been completed, submit the application fee, which is currently $125, a photograph, 3 references, and consent form for a background check.
- Once a massage therapy license has been granted, one is now ready to pursue a career in massage therapy in the state of Georgia.
