To be eligible to take the licensure examination administered by the board, an individual must:
1. Complete 500 hours of supervised education in massage therapy studies in a school licensed to provide massage therapy certification in Louisiana. Of the 500 hours, 125 should focus on anatomy and physiology, 325 must be involved with basic techniques and clinical work, and the remaining 50 hours is discretionary in areas like hydrotherapy, business, professional ethics, health and hygiene, CPR, and first aid. Include a copy of your official transcript along with your application.
AND
2. Present proof that you have passed the national examination for the field.
OR
3. Present a copy of an up-to-date license from a different state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia whose requirements for licensure are similar to those in the state of Louisiana. Also submit an official school transcript documenting the courses you have taken as well as proof of passing the national examination. To apply for Louisiana’s oral examination, you must also supply a catalog of the massage therapy school you attended.
Make sure that your application is postmarked 30 days in advance of the desired test date.
