How to Become a Massage Therapist in Maryland - MD

In the state of Maryland massage therapy practitioners, licensed and registered.  The following outlines the steps to become a massage therapist in Maryland:

  1. Successfully completed 60 credit hours of college coursework.
  2. Graduation from an accredited school with 500 hours of coursework.  The certified transcript must be sent to the Board.
  3. Proof of passing the examination administered by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCACOM).
  4. Successfully pass the Maryland massage therapy jurisprudence examination.  This is a test regarding the state's statutes and regulations that govern massage therapy within the state of Maryland.
