By Susan Maphis, allied health world contributing writerPublished: February 15th, 2010
If you are interested in helping others through the science of kinesiology and touch, becoming a Massage Therapist might be a viable career option for you. New Hampshire massage therapy certification for licensure is regulated by that state's Licensing and Regulative Services division.
One does not have to be a citizen of the state of New Hampshire or even of the United States to become a Massage Therapist in New Hampshire. However, there are strict protocols and regulations that must be met, as well as examinations that must be passed.
- To become a licensed Massage Therapist in New Hampshire, one must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, and show evidence of good physical and mental health.
- Furthermore, he or she must not have been convicted of a sexually-related crime or moral crime for a period of 10 years prior to application.
- The applicant must have completed at least 750 hours of a curriculum from a New Hampshire massage therapy certification program that meets the educational requirements of the state (see Education section below). Official transcripts and a copy of the diploma are required. If you attended a Massage School outside of the state of New Hampshire, you must also submit a Transcript Review Packet.
- The applicant must take and pass the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBOT) exam, thus becoming certified by that organization.
