Continuing Education (CE) Requirements for Massage Therapists in Montana
In a nutshell: there are none yet. New to the concept of Massage Therapy licensing, Montana has yet to require any state-level certification. There is a proposal to require 12 hours of CE hours every two years, but this has not been finalized. However, the major certifying organization in the field, as well as in acupuncture (detailed above) does have requirements, which are listed below if only to give you an idea of what Montana might soon require. States developing new licensing regulations often borrow from other states or reputable national governing bodies.
NCBTMB
Certification renewal is required every four years. During that time, you must take 48 hours of classes or other coursework (six of which cover ethics) as well as demonstrate a minimum of 200 hours of Therapy work. NCBTMB has a list of approved providers who offer classes as well as other providers that meet similar criteria.
NCCAOM
Certification renewal for this group is also required once every four years. NCCAOM expects you to finish 60 hours of CE, which is subdivided into various categories that have their own sub-requirements.
