At the national level, the AMTA (www.amtamassage.org) provides broader support to Nevada’s Massage Therapists and those who are in massage therapy training in Nevada by offering additional print publications that include the “Massage Therapy Journal” (a periodical focused on the Massage Therapy industry), by providing online continuing education courses and regional professional symposia, and through their website’s jobs board. Each year, they host the AMTA National Convention.

Continuing Education for Massage Therapists in Nevada

Every four years Nevada’s Massage Therapists are required to renew their certification to maintain NCTMB standing. Re-certification requires completing 48 hours of continuing education and 200 hours of documented and related work experience within the prior four-year period.

Maintaining your Nevada state MT license requires completion of 12 hours of NCBTMB-approved continuing education courses each year.

Educational options that can fulfill these requirements are listed below:

  • Completing a college degree program or other academic course work
  • Continuing education course hours from an NCBTMB-sanctioned provider
  • Giving presentations at the local or national levels
  • Participating in a clinical internship
  • Obtaining certifications outside the NCBTMB
  • Serving in a position of relevant national or state leadership
  • Doing field-related research
  • Authoring publications
  • Completing “self-directed” learning projects

Though not a current requirement, an advanced certification program is under development by a special NCBTMB task force. In the future, a higher credential may be offered to further enhance the knowledge and capabilities of Massage Therapists in Nevada and the rest of the U.S.
