Continuing Education (CE) Requirements for Massage Therapists in Tennessee

After you have earned your license the first time, you must take at least 25 hours of continuing education every two years to develop and enhance your massage skills. Fortunately, there are many areas you can study and learn more about healing techniques from all around the world. Massage therapy courses in Tennessee must be approved by the NCBTMB or the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. If you wish to take a class not already approved, you can submit a description to the licensing board and have that class added to the approved list. Other coursework that is already approved by the Board includes CPR classes from the American Heart Association, any class from AMTA or TMTA, American Red Cross (like an HIV course or first aid) or any class from an accredited university.

Two hours of massage therapy training in Tennessee for continuing education must be regarding Tennessee and federal requirements and statutes; two hours must cover one of these three areas: substance abuse, professional ethics or business
practices.
