Continuing Education (CE) Requirements for Massage Therapists in Texas
The Texas Department of Health Services issues a two-year license to massage therapists. During each two-year cycle, therapists are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education. Hour are reported and collected through a state department audit system. Continuing education hours can be completed through education programs, institutes, seminars, workshops, conferences, or advanced coursework. The only stipulation is first aid and/or CPR continuing education hours cannot exceed six hours.
Opportunities for advancement are limited in massage therapy, given its nature. However, massage therapy training in Texas is the best bet for advancement. Some massage therapists ultimately pursue becoming a massage therapy educator.
