The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) is actively campaigning to create standard regulations for massage therapy in Wyoming and other states that don’t regulate it. And, while this state doesn’t have specific regulation requirements for the practice of massage or massage therapy training in Wyoming, if Wyoming therapists wish to practice in other states, they’re required to meet the regulations of that state.

Becoming certified by NCBTMB offers many benefits for Wyoming massage therapists. In addition to those listed above, NCBTMB certified massage therapists have a competitive edge against those who aren’t certified because they are proving their commitment to safe and ethical practices. Some health insurance companies may offer reimbursement for massage therapy when completed by a certified massage therapist, especially since certification can establish him as a healthcare provider. Plus, employment opportunities may increase, especially for those who want to work in other states.

Although NCBTMB certification is widely recognized as the highest standard in professional certification for the massage therapy industry as a whole, it is not always enough for state-to-state practice. So, if a therapist has been nationally certified, in some states, he will need to meet additional requirements before being allowed to practice there. Requirements may include a certain number of class and clinic hours, among other things. Some states will allow a therapist to use documented experience and NCBTMB certification to bypass their traditional license regulation requirements, but this is done on a case-by-case basis.
