In order to become a medical assistant, you must earn at minimum a certificate of achievement from an accredited school. However, most hospitals, clinics, and private physicians prefer to hire a candidate with an associate’s degree; so, this means you will need to get on the ball and prepare to invest as many as two years in your education.
Because there are so many different medical assistant schools to choose from, it may seem like a daunting task to decipher which school has the best curriculum. However, keep in mind that all accredited schools have excellent programs, and you need to choose the program that best identifies with your personal needs, as well as your professional goals.
Online Medical Assistant Schools
Decades ago online schooling was just a fleeting thought and still in its infant stages; however, today it is alive and well and has
greatly helped stay-at-home moms and full-time students bring their dreams of going to college into fruition. With that being said, and in today’s world where technology is life, you should include online schools when you begin your search for a medical assistant school.
The bottom line here is that you are no longer locked into attending a bricks-and-mortar traditional school. On the flipside, and in these dire economic times, many people are fighting tooth and nail to keep the jobs that they have worked at for so long, all the while wishing that they could further their education without the burden of a recurring mortgage payment. While you may not be able to revive the economy or pay off your house anytime soon, you can get yourself one step closer to your professional aspirations by attending an online school.
With online schools, you’re able to determine the hours. Naturally, you will have deadlines and due dates, but the amount of time that is dedicated to school no longer has to be hampered by a long commute or finding a babysitter. For these reasons, and so many more, online schooling is the new wave of education in America.
Medical Assistant Certificate vs. Medical Assistant Associate’s Degree
These are the two educational options available through medical assistant schools. It is worth mentioning that both of these options are available online. A certificate program typically lasts anywhere from 6 to 16 weeks, depending upon the school and the curriculum. On average, this type of program will cost roughly $700 to $2500, again depending on which school you choose and what the program involves. The important thing to remember is that most certificate programs are not eligible for financial aid; however, most schools do have flexible payment plans in lieu of that.
The associate’s degree is a 2-year course. The cost is usually a little bit higher for this type of degree, costing approximately $2000 to $5000. Keep in mind that if you choose to attend an actual classroom setting, the price will probably be higher than it would if you went to school online. Complete a form to request information from one of these schools and an enrollment counselor will be in contact with you to discuss your Medical Assistant educational options.
