If you live in Michigan and want to work in a healthcare profession that requires both clinical knowledge and a head for business, you should consider the field of healthcare management.  As administrators of medical institutions large and small, healthcare managers make decisions every day that impact the welfare of patients and influence the direction of healthcare policy and practice.  Most healthcare administration jobs in Michigan are found in hospitals; however, management positions are also available at nursing homes, long-term care, and rehabilitation facilities, as well as clinics and multi-professional medical practices.  If you choose to pursue a career in healthcare management in Michigan, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills at renowned medical institutions, including William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Traverse City State Hospital in Traverse City, and Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

If you are seriously considering a career in healthcare management, then education should be your primary concern.  A bachelor’s degree will be enough to land you an entry-level position at a number of healthcare facilities; however, you must obtain a master’s degree if you are to have any prospect of career advancement or significant earning potential.  Keep in mind that most successful healthcare managers spend time working in a healthcare profession at a hospital or other medical facility before returning to school for an advanced degree in health services management.
