Continuing Education for Medical Assistants in Michigan
Continuing education for Medical assistants is through the AAMA national association (nothing is required for the state of Michigan. Continuing education credits are required every 5 years. This can be achieved one of two ways.
- Take and pass the AAMA CMA Certification/Recertification Exam
- Collect 60 recertification points, 30 of which must be AAMA approved. Points must be collected in the following categories:
- 10 points in Administration
- 10 points in Clinical
- 10 points in General
- 30 points from any combination of the above
The same application process and fees apply to recertification as first time certification. Additionally all medical assistants are required to be CPR certified and hold that certification and renewing annually.
