Michigan Healthcare Informatics School - MI

School Accreditation

Accreditation is probably something that you will not initially be familiar with. However, the future of your personal career depends heavily on this one aspect, so you need to take heed of the following organizations: the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Most nursing informatics schools in Michigan are in compliance with these accreditations, but you need to make sure because you cannot take any further testing by the ANCC and the HIMSS without it.

Degree Options

Because of the encompassing nature and dependency of patient care that this career field holds, you need to have a bachelor’s degree or higher to get your nurses registration. A bachelor’s degree should take no longer than 4 years from start-to-finish, and at the end of that time you will be able to continue with making the dreams of your career come true.

Several Michigan nursing informatics programs have a master’s degree option, if you so desire. Most nursing informaticists do not start off with this level of education, but many go on to pursue it when they want to advance in their careers. The master’s degree will add about 2 years of educational time, and the true benefit is that you will have achieved this highest degree possible. In addition, the master’s degree is notably recognized by employers.

Now that you probably think that your education should be done, you still have one more program to take: the nursing informatics certificate program. This 1-year program will teach you the ins and outs of informatics in the nursing field. It will show you the role that technology plays and what your responsibilities will be.

Internships will have the greatest benefit to you when you begin seeking employment. Because most degrees do require them prior to graduation, you will be at the advantage of having employers view your work first-hand. You will also have the added of benefit of learning from your peers and seeing what it is really like to work in nursing informatics.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Nurses in Health Informatics in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor and Lansing, Michigan may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the William Beaumont Hospital, Traverse City State Hospital, Children's Hospital of Michigan and Henry Ford Hospital.
