The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates the average annual income of a personal trainer to be just over $34,000, which is the equivalent of about $16.50 an hour.  The low end of personal trainers are paid as little as $7.75 and hour and at the high end some are paid $30 an hour and above.  In larger cities some personal in-home trainers are even reported to make upwards of $100 an hour!  Personal trainers in Michigan on average make around $32,430 a year, according to BLS statistics.  However, job searches for personal trainers in the Michigan area on Indeed.com show the annual average salary to be closer to $50,000.  That being said, personal trainer salaries in the state vary greatly depending on location and responsibilities.
