According to getdegreees.com, as of August 2009, veterans who served in U.S. Armed Forces beyond September 11, 2001 may be eligible for the new Montgomery GI Bill that covers 100 percent of college tuition and fees, a monthly housing stipend, and up to $1,000 a year in college books and supplies. This is worthy of noting for those considering becoming a post-military psychologist in Kentucky.
To be eligible, personnel must have served in active duty for at least 90 days after September 11, 2001, and meet one of the following criteria:
- Remain on active duty.
- Discharged or released from the military due to Condition Interfered with Duty, Existed Prior to Service, or Hardship.
- Obtained an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces.
- Released with an honorable service and transferred to Fleet Reserve or Fleet Marine Corps Reserve, or placed on either the retired list or temporary disability retired list.
- Released with the acknowledgment of honorable service to serve in the reserves.
Service personnel who served 30 days or more in active duty after September 11, 2001 are also eligible to take advantage of the new GI Bill if they were discharged because of a service-related disability.
