Minnesota Pharmacy Tech Certificate – MN

Steps to Becoming a Pharmacy Technician in Minnesota

To register with the State of Minnesota as a Pharmacy Technician, you need to be at least 16 years of age, with a solid grasp of what's required of you on the job. To find employment and remain competitive, however, you're going to want to go above that. Most States are adapting stricter laws and asking more of Pharmacy Technicians, and Minnesota will be no exception.

You'll need to have graduated high school, or have earned an equivalent degree, to get into a post-secondary Minnesota pharmacy technician certification program. If you are in high school still, or working on a GED, try to take classes in life sciences, sports medicine, and computer or office work.

Some high schools in Minnesota offer partnerships with vocational or technical schools that may allow you to graduate with a significant portion of your Pharmacy Technician training complete. Look for these schools, but keep in mind that, if you want to become nationally certified, you'll have to go through a program accredited by either the ICPT or the PCTB.

Once you enroll in a Minnesota pharmacy technician certification program, be it online or at a vocational or community college, you should begin getting work experience. This is a vital part of your training, so you are going to want to be very proactive in getting an internship or externship that matches your needs.

Upon graduation, which should typically be after around 6 to 8 months, you are ready to either begin working, or take the exam to become a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician, if you've enrolled in the appropriate program.

Most of Minneapolis’s Pharmacy Technicians are employed in Minneapolis, where they also generally earn the most money, but it is easier for new or relatively inexperienced Pharmacy Technicians to find employment in cities like Rochester, or Duluth, where the demand is much higher.
