Mississippi Personal Trainer Education, Certification, Licensure Renewal

Some on-line programs take only a few months to complete for basic certification.  There are others where you can enroll in more in-depth Mississippi personal training courses available at community and vocational colleges, as well as campus-based personal training schools.  This type of program will, of course, take a longer time to complete.  The salary you can earn is greatly influenced by the level of certification you attain.  This also impacts your desirability for being hired as a staff member at a gym or health club and to establish your expertise in the field.  The costs for most of these study programs ranges from $300 to $800.  The training includes classroom and/or self-study material to prepare for the certification exam, and a supervised hands-on experience in a workplace situation.

Many organizations offer preparation courses and exams for Personal Trainers, but there are only eight accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA).  These eight, which are listed below, are the most respected because of their high standards for training.  Upon completion of the requirements they issue a certificate as proof of your status as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) or a Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT), according to the agency you have selected.  Details and complete information are available on their websites.

The state of Mississippi has no requirements for licensure. The certifying agencies listed above do require continuing education units (CEUs) in order to renew and maintain your certification.  The certification needs to be renewed every two or three years.  The specific requirements for renewal are explained on the above websites.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Personal Trainers in Jackson, West Gulfport, Gulfport, Biloxi and Hattiesburg, Mississippi may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Tupelo Hospital, North Mississippi Medical Center, Baptist Memorial Hospital and University of Mississippi Medical Center.
