Education Requirements for a Registered Nurse in Mississippi
Mississippi RN schools offer nursing programs that include classroom lectures and clinical experience in hospitals and other healthcare organizations. Coursework, for both an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree in nursing includes: anatomy, microbiology, chemistry, physiology, nutrition, psychology and other behavioral sciences and nursing, as well as other liberal arts courses. Clinicals are conducted in a hospital setting. However, many Mississippi clinical programs include experience in nursing care facilities, home health agencies, ambulatory clinics and public health departments. Whichever area you experience your clinical, the main course of instruction will be how to direct and/or supervise others, correctly performing patient assessments and determining if and when a consultation is required.
Advancement for Registered Nurses in Mississippi
Nursing is no different than any other health care fields, as to the way to advance within the field. The best way to advance your career in nursing, in the State of Mississippi, is to obtain further education. Since, the State does not require registered nurses to complete a certain number of continual educational courses, the best way for advancement, is to further one’s degree or to specialize. In other words if you are a registered nurse with an associate’s degree in nursing, then you may want to consider a bachelors of science degree in nursing. Likewise, if you have a BSN, you may want to specialize in, for example, med/surge nursing, so you would attend a training program that will help you become a registered med/surge nurse. There are many ways to further your education within the nursing field; you just need to speak to people within the field to get a sense as to what their degree has awarded them.
Through campus or online programs, aspiring Registered Nurses in Jackson, West Gulfport, Gulfport, Biloxi and Hattiesburg, Mississippi may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Tupelo Hospital, North Mississippi Medical Center, Baptist Memorial Hospital and University of Mississippi Medical Center.
