To Become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA)

  1. Attend and graduate from an accredited school for dental assistants in Missouri.
  2. Seek certification from DANB (recognized by the state of Missouri).
There are a number of dental assistant schools in Missouri. Most range from 9-12 months to complete a certification.

Administering Anesthesia

A dental assistant can complete a formal training course on the administration of local anesthesia and pass a competency test on clinical training OR bring a certification in from another state that requires similar training and testing to obtain.

At this time, there are no continuing education requirements for dental assistants, but additional training and eventual certification is encouraged. By graduating from a formal training program, dental assistants in Missouri can increase their marketability.
