The backbone of the healthcare system in the United States is registered nurses. Registered nurses combine academics in science and technology with natural personal skills, such as compassion and communication to help, comfort, and heal in times of need. The nursing profession makes up the largest career in healthcare. The State of Missouri employs approximately 70,000 licensed registered nurses who function in variety of health care settings. A registered nurse is one of the most stable jobs in the booming field of healthcare.

Advancement Opportunities
The easiest route to advancement in the field of nursing is additional education either online or through campus based Missouri RN schools. Also, the importance of field experience cannot be overstated as it is one of the most vital components to career advancement. Once completing the licensing required by the state of Missouri, a registered nurse may continue with a specialized course of study or an advanced field of study. Advanced fields of study in nursing most often required a master’s degree in addition to contact hours and hand-on experience.

Continued Education Requirements
Registered nurses in the state of Missouri receive a two year license. The license must be renewed during odd years. It expires on April 30th of the renewal year. Processing time for the renewal of a nursing license is 30-45 days. The renewal fee is $45. Applications for renewal are available through The Missouri State Board of Nursing. No additional courses or contact hours are required for renewal in the state of Missouri.
