Dialysis Tech Certification in Nebraska - NE

Dialysis technician careers in Nebraska do have a certification requirement, which is actually mandated by the federal government. The regulatory board for this is known as the Board of Nephrology Examiners and Nursing Technology (BONENT). After you have completed your schooling, you will be able to test for the Certified Hemodialysis Technologist (CHT) title. While this is not required as a stipulation of employment, you do have to obtain this designation within 18 months of your hire date.

There are two types of dialysis treatments: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis uses a machine to filter the patient’s blood and then returns it to the body. Peritoneal dialysis includes the insertion of a tube into the abdominal cavity, which then uses the membranous lining of the cavity to filter waste from the body. These methods are the core of dialysis treatment, and as a CHT, you will be qualified to perform hemodialysis on patients.

From an employment outlook perspective, careers in this field are expected to be plentiful in Nebraska as the population continues to age. In fact, it is estimated that there are currently some 400,000 patients in need of dialysis treatment nationwide, and that number is expected to grow to 1.5 million by 2020. So, there is no doubt that dialysis technicians are both valuable and in demand and will continue to be in the years to come.
