Find the right school for you
In Nebraska, midwifery is not a licensed profession. It is, however, still a regulated profession, which means that you must meet certain educational requirements set forth by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. You can begin to pursue a career in this field by selecting and enrolling in an accredited online midwifery school, or one located in the state of Nebraska.
Midwives in Nebraska are recognized as Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM). In order to be eligible for this designation, you must have a master degree education in nursing and midwifery. This is generally 2-3 years of study in addition to your undergraduate degree courses. Once you have finished your bachelor degree, you can then obtain your registered nurse status and proceed to complete the master’s degree portion of your future career.
No matter which school you attend, the following coursework is likely to part of your curriculum:
- Introduction to the Midwives Model of Care
- Perinatal Nutrition: Pre-conception and Prenatal
- Epidemiology for Midwives
- Well Woman Health and Assessment
- Genetics and Embryology
Through both online and campus-based programs, aspiring midwives in Grand Island, Bellevue, Omaha, and Lincoln, Nebraska can look forward to prosperous careers in a variety of medical facilities throughout the state, including Lincoln Surgical Hospital, Blue Cross of Nebraska, Bryan LGH Medical Center, and Alegent Healthcare.
