Students will attend classroom and lab courses. During medical assisting training in Nevada, a clinical internship or practicum is assigned in the final term. Online sections of some classes enable students who live at a distance to learn the necessary information without relocating or traveling more than necessary.
Students in Nevada medical assistant training will study a variety of business and medical topics. They will learn about basic accounting, office procedures, computer technology, and clerical skills, in addition to medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical equipment usage, pharmacology, and other patient-care topics. Medical Assistants must be able to problem-solve and prioritize medical and administrative issues, function as a healthcare team member, apply administrative skills and policies, and work well with patients and other healthcare workers. Coursework and clinical experience, plus natural ability, will help them be valuable team members in a variety of medical settings.
In Nevada, you must be a high school graduate (or have an equivalent degree) to obtain a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) credential. Students with previous experience in a medical field and/or medical education may be able to complete the requirements for a Medical Assisting degree more quickly than those with no previous experience or education.
