The first thing that you need to do to begin a career in this dynamic field is to choose a medical office management degree program in Nevada. Keep in mind that there are no state-specific requirements as to which type of degree you should attain, but there are industry standards that are in-line with most employers’ hiring practices.

The majority of employers in Nevada will be looking to hire a medical office manager with the minimum of a bachelor degree in medical office management. The industry, in general, considers the master degree to be standard, but many physicians’ offices and hospitals in Nevada are completely willing to accept the bachelor degree for entry-level medical office management employment. There are associate degree programs as well; however, larger clinics and hospitals tend to prefer a bachelor degree or higher.

While the curriculum varies between medical office management degree programs in Nevada, the courses listed below are likely to be mandatory with any degree program in this field:

  • Medical Law and Bioethics
  • Software Applications for Health Care Professionals
  • Diseases of the Human Body
  • Medical Office Management
  • Medical Insurance and Billing

Once you have completed your degree program, you will begin a hands-on externship training program. This is a graduation requirement, and the purpose of this training program is to give medical office management students in Nevada the opportunity to work in a medical office and assist with its daily managerial functions.

Through both online and campus-based programs, future medical office managers in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Reno, Nevada will find themselves more than prepared for careers with some of the state’s largest medical facilities, including Spring Valley Hospital, Sunrise Hospital, Desert Springs Hospital, and Northern Nevada Medical Center.
