Nevada’s educational system is unique in that it has developed innovative programs designed to train professionals for specific fields and industries. Two and four year sonography programs provide students with the basics of medical imaging, in-depth instruction and clinical practice for a field in general, vascular, and cardiac ultrasound technology. Students are required to have CPR certification, and may be asked to undergo a physical examination prior to starting a program.
Sonography training programs through ultrasound schools in Nevada are typically geared toward the full-time student, but part-time and online courses are also available. Students in four year programs must take general education classes such as English, history, language, math, physics, chemistry and biology in addition to upper division sonography and related imaging coursework. These programs also typically include an internship component where students gain clinical experience at a local hospital or medical facility.
Two-year programs offer the same quality sonography instruction without the general education requirements. Students may need to complete certain math and science pre-requisites or take a placement test prior to entering the two-year program. Similar to the four-year programs, two-year programs incorporate both in-class and clinical learning opportunities.
