How to Become a Gerontologist in New Hampshire - NH

New Hampshire has educational resources that offer the students the opportunity to enter gerontology certificate programs that will offer health care professionals, as well as those who have an interesting in the aging process, specialized knowledge of issues related to gerontology and the aging process, enabling them to better understand and serve the elderly. Besides furthering knowledge, achieving the gerontologist certification provides additional career opportunities and opportunities for advancement.


The gerontology certificate is an undergraduate program that includes courses at the junior and senior level. Typical entrance requirements specify that an individual possess a baccalaureate or an advanced degree or possess a two-year associate degree and a minimum of two years of appropriate professional experience in a health or social services field and a personal recommendation from an employer or faculty member. 

The certificate curriculum for gerontology certification in New Hamphire is based on 24 credits  and coursework will cover general areas of interest, such as the individual and social aspects of the aging process; causes and consequences of many of the problems experienced by the elderly; provisioning services to older people through a variety of settings; services and programs available in New Hampshire and elsewhere that promote and enable the health and independence of the elderly; communication best practices between the aged and health care professionals and policy issues, laws and administration of programs for older adults.

The State of New Hampshire licensing board does not certify or license gerontologists at this time.
