Steps to Become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New Hampshire

  1. Graduation from high school is a necessity if you want to become an LPN in New Hampshire.
  2. Enroll in a campus based on online New Hampshire LPN program. The LPN program you choose must be approved by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing. A list of board-approved LPN training programs is at www.nh.gov/nursing/education/index.html .
  3.  You will need to complete a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, and pay the applicable fee to the New Hampshire State Police.
  4. Submit an application for licensure to the New Hampshire Board of Nursing. Mail it along with the appropriate fee, or complete the application online. It is available at www.nh.gov/nursing/general/index.html .
  5. Have the registrar's office from your school send your transcripts directly to the New Hampshire Board of Nursing. All materials should be sent to:

  1. You must pass the N-CLEX-PN certificate examination to become nationally certified. The NCLEX -PN examination is given on a computer at Pearson Vue testing centers across the United States. You must register with Pearson Vue to take the test, before hearing back from the NH Board of Nursing. Register on line at www.pearsonvue.com/nclex.  The registration fee is $200.00.
  2. When your completed application for license and supporting documentation has been received, Pearson Testing Service will send your Authorization to Test. This will tell you when and where your test will be.
  3. Test results are usually processed 24-48 hours after testing.  They can be verified at www.state.nh.us/nursing under License Verification.  Results are mailed about a week after the test.
