Education Required for Licensed Practical Nurses in New Hampshire

In order to be admitted to most New Hampshire LPN schools, you need at least a high school diploma and a passing grade of B in high school algebra. Programs last from 7 to 24 months. You will graduate with an LPN certificate or an LPN degree.  Many New Hampshire LPN schools require nurse entrance tests prior to enrolling in a program.

Courses you will take in an LPN program include Nursing Essentials, Computer Literacy for Health Care, Medical Terminology, Psychology, Nutrition, Medication Administration, Geriatric Care, Pharmacology, Maternity and Newborn Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Anatomy, and Physiology. If you go to a community or trade school, the average cost for an LPN program is $14,000.

Continuing education is required to keep your license current. Licenses must be renewed every two years in the state of New Hampshire. Courses must amount to 30 contact hours in the 2 years immediately preceding license application. Approved continuing education courses include workshops, conferences, lectures or other education offerings whose purpose it is to enhance nursing knowledge, judgment, and skills. In addition to this CE requirement, LPNs also have an Active in Practice requirement. LPNs must have at least 400 hours active in practice in the four-year period preceding license renewal. Alternatively, they can complete a board-approved refresher program within two years of application for renewal, or complete the NCLEX examination within two years of application.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Licensed Practical Nurses in Manchester, Nashua, East Concord, Concord and Derry Village, New Hampshire may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Concord Hospital, Wentworth Douglas Hospital, Catholic Medical Center and Cheshire Medical Center.
