The national average salary of Medical Assistants is approximately $29,000. The New England area ranks second highest for annual salaries of Medical Assistants with the Pacific Region ranking highest nationwide. New Hampshire Medical Assistant Salary is $29,730 annually and $14.30 according to the 2009 CMA Salary Survey conducted by the American Association of Medical Assistants. Average salaries vary according to years of experience as well as across healthcare settings and geographical regions.

Those employed in outpatient clinics or group practices earned on average $1000 more per year than those working for a solo practice or managed care facility. Those working in major metro downtown and neighborhood areas earned approximately $2500 more than those working in rural areas.

According to the 2009 Survey, it was estimated that 70% of their time is devoted to clinical duties while administrative functions take up approximately 20% of their day. Less than 10% was spent on managerial tasks such as purchasing supplies, supervising staff, or managing finances.
