New Jersey Medical Technologist Certification

To become a Medical Technologist, you need to complete a Bachelor’s Degree.  By the time you have completed your educational training, you will have thoroughly studied the various sciences that are directly related to the field of Medical Technology, including immunology, serology, hematology, and parisitology.  All of the fields related to Medical Technology will be tested on the national certification examinations, so make sure you pay attention!

First, schedule the examination through one of the national accrediting organizations, such as the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, The American Medical Technologists, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.  In New Jersey, Medical Technologist certification is granted through these national organizations.  Again, you will need to prove that you have achieved the 4 year Bachelor’s Degree with a Medical Technology training program that has been accredited through the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, including the minimal number of experience hours in a hospital or laboratory setting.  After the examination has been scheduled, it is time to study.  Many of the organizations will provide you with study materials or offer study seminars for individuals preparing for the examination.  Last, take the test and pass it.  Once the examination is passed, it is time for step four.

Certification Maintenance for New Jersey Medical Technologists

Just like a car, home, or anything else, your certification will require routine maintenance to keep it updated and running smoothly.  Continue learning about the dynamic field of Medical Technology in order to remain abreast of any changes in technology or procedures.  Every three years, fulfill the continuing education requirements, submit a renewal form, and pay your fees.  Failure to renew a license by the expiration date can result in cancellation of the certification and late fees associated with reinstating a lapsed certification.
