Pharmacy Technician Certification in New Jersey - NJ

How to Become a Pharmacy Technician in New Jersey

  1. Be 18 years of age or older and have proof of a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  2. Show proficiency in written and spoken English and evidence of good moral character. 
  3. Have no felony convictions of any kind within five years and no drug of pharmacy related felony convictions. 
  4. Submit an application for registration as a pharmacy technician with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy. The non-refundable application filing fee is $50.  Application fees are additionally either $35 or $70 depending on the date which you submit your application.  The application will include an extensive questionnaire regarding your personal information, mental and physical health, and education.  You will also be required to submit fingerprints for a background check.   
  5. Obtain additional training for New Jersey pharmacy technician certification. You may also choose to enroll in a New Jersey pharmacy technician certification program at a community college or online school.

Professional Organizations for Pharmacy Technicians in the New Jersey

The state of New Jersey does not currently have any organizations that are solely dedicated to meeting the needs of pharmacy technicians.  The following associations offer support and education for pharmacy technicians as well as the latest legislation information regarding pharmacy technician licensing and registration requirements. 

  • New Jersey Board of Pharmacy – The New Jersey Board of Pharmacy aims to protect the public of New Jersey by ensuring that only qualified individuals are licensed and certified to practice in the state.  They provide the necessary resources for registration, certification, and continuing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

  • New Jersey Pharmacists Association – The New Jersey Pharmacist Association is a membership based association comprised of active and retired pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students.  They offer political lobby and professional representation to members as well as up-to-date information, networking opportunities, continuing education opportunities.  Other services the association offers include scholarships for pharmacy student members, impaired pharmacist support, specialty academics/certification and liaison with other health organizations.
