According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, registered nurses are the nation's largest group of health care workers, having more than 2.5 million active workers. Nurses play a huge role in health care today especially in tough economic times. New Jersey’s population is aging and there is an even greater need for nurses particularly in New Jersey.
There are currently 11,440 Registered Nurses in the State of New Jersey. The average age of a Registered Nurse in New Jersey is 50 years old with 15% of Registered Nurses expected to retire in the next five years. There is a need for an additional 18,000 nurses to keep up with the current need in New Jersey especially with an aging population and the fact that many people are struggling with diseases like diabetes, obesity, and cancer, which creates an even greater need for registered nurses. New Jersey RN schools prepare graduates to enter this vital profession with all the training needed to offer top notch patient care.
Nursing is a very rewarding career with great pay and flexible hours, which is what draws people to this growing profession.
Nursing offers job security, which is something that we are all looking for especially during tough economic times.

Continuing Education
Continuing education is very important to Registered Nurses. With the advancement of technology nurses are required to attend Continuing Education Courses to advance in salary and keep their current positions. As of May 2008, registered nurses are required to take 30 contact hours of continuing education per two year renewal. All hours must be accredited. The New Jersey State Nursing Association and New Jersey Board of Nursing are good sources in finding accredited continuing education courses. http://www.njsna.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=118
