New Mexico Massage Therapy Schools - NM

As of November 1, 2006, all massage therapy license applicants are required to meet certain minimum educational requirements massage therapy schools in New Mexico. These requirements include a minimum of 165 hours training in anatomy and physiology, a minimum of 75 hours of general instruction training (including specific massage therapy techniques, Hydrotherapy, Business and at least 4 hours each of First Aid and CPR training) and at least 30 hours training in professional ethics. Plus, the New Mexico Massage Therapy Board requires license candidates to receive at least 150 hours of massage therapy instruction, including contraindication training and at least 260 hours of electives, which may include up to 150 hours of Clinical Practicum. Electives offered by a New Mexico massage school may also include specific massage therapies not otherwise covered in classes, related healing practices, extra physiology and/or anatomy classes, counseling, herbology and homeopathy, nutrition, breathing and stretching methods and theory. Other electives can be pursued with Board approval.
A massage therapist is a licensed professional who executes various massage and body work techniques. Massage therapy is a broad field that includes more than 80 distinct techniques or modalities—including everything from basic Swedish massage to more New Age therapies like Reiki healing.
While some therapists primarily focus on keeping their clients relaxed and helping to promote general good health, others focus on treating more specific health and stress related conditions. Some conditions that can be treated through massage therapy include congenital muscular disorders, high blood pressure, sports injuries, chronic back pain, addiction, diabetes and even depression.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Massage Therapists in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho and Roswell, New Mexico may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the St. Vincent Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Memorial Medical Center.
