The minimum requirement to obtain a physical therapist assistant is to have an Associate Degree in Art with an emphasis on physical therapy. This type of educational study will typically take 2 years to complete.

There is the additional option of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy studies, as well. While this type of degree is not required in New Mexico, many students who hold this type of degree will expand into specific specialties of physical therapy. There are a few New Mexico physical therapy assistant schools available.

Both of these degree programs will cover the major body systems, as well the importance of physical therapy on those body systems. Regardless of which degree program you choose, the most important thing in New Mexico to remember is that it must be accredited by the CAPTE.

Associate’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees can both be obtained from online schooling. Taking classes via the internet has become extremely popular for those students that are pressed for time and those that enjoy the peaceful learning environment of their home.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Physical Therapy Assistants in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho and Roswell, New Mexico may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the St. Vincent Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Memorial Medical Center.
